We have analyzed the differences in the epidemiological characteristics of women with different Candida low female genital tract infection.Eligible for the study were 4228 women aged 18-70 years with symptomatic low gynecological tract infection and clinical findings suggestive for Candida infection consecutively attending during the study period first level outpatients gynecological services in Italy. Abstract Background Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a common infection among women worldwide, being Candida albicans the most commonly isolated species. Therefore, controlling this opportunistic yeast is one of the key factors for reducing nosocomial infection. Aims We investigated several virulence properties of 28 vaginal strains of Candida isolated from Tunisian women suffering from vulvovaginitis.
